A wonderful item appeared in the January 15 issue of the Guadalajara Reporter, published here in the Lake Chapala area, which I want to share with you, whether you live in Mexico or not:
A Minute for Peace
A new civic organization based in Guadalajara has started a unique campaign to fight violence and fear in Mexico. Their answer: positive energy. The group Minuto Por Unidad (One Minute for Unity) believes the combined goodwill of the people has the power to change the country for the better and are urging everyone to…[recite a phrase]… for one minute every night at 8 p.m. Those who wish to participate must say the following: “Vivo en un pais pacífico, próspero y armonioso, como yo soy” (I live in country as peaceful, prosperous and harmonious as I am).
Liliana Reguera, a sociologist and creator of the organization, insists that it has no religious affiliations and is open to people of all ages and beliefs. More information about Minuto por la Unidad can be found on Facebook or by contacting unminutoporlaunidad@gmail.com.
I read this article and I immediately decided this was something I could do, because I wanted to be part of something bigger than me. I set my cell phone alarm and it rings every night at 8:00 pm, and I repeat “I live in a country as peaceful, prosperous and harmonious as I am” for a minute. It makes me feel so good that I find myself thinking the phrase several times a day actually.
I have also had some interesting things happen not the least of which is that sometimes I feel almost giddy no matter what I’m doing…giddy doing laundry…what’s up with that?! We also had a loan paid off that wasn’t supposed to be final for almost a year! The call came out of the blue: “We’ve decided we’re just going to pay back the entire amount today.” Oh my gosh…that was a huge surprise.
No matter what country you live in!
Now, here’s where you come in whether you live in Mexico or not…obviously this phrase can be used for ANY country. The United States and Canada are no strangers to violence and fear…maybe we can all make a difference.
I was at a party Saturday night, and, as usual, my alarm went off. I immediately announced to everyone what it was about and we all spent a minute in quiet contemplation, thinking about the power of collective consciousness. A cell in your body is the smallest unit of consciousness. Billions of these conscious units collect to make one conscious human. What would happen when there are millions of conscious humans together calling for peace…all that positive energy of consciousness on a gargantuan level. Wow! I sincerely believe we could be the start of something huge…with so little effort…just one minute of conscious effort on your part once a day. How amazing would that be?
I hope you’ll join us in this wonderful effort, and I hope you will forward this suggestion on to friends and family. Let’s see what we can do with all our positive energy! It certainly won’t hurt to try. Can you tell I’m getting excited just thinking about it? I hope you are too!
...because I live in country as peaceful, prosperous and harmonious as I am!
