Alumni Resources

Once you have participated in a Focus on Mexico 8-Day Educational Program, you instantly become a Focus Alumni, making you eligible for our full relocation services. We'll help you through the process so you will have a smooth transition. You will have access to our 'Ask Focus' website, which is designed to cover all aspects of the move and living here on a day to day basis. There will be at least six major sections which will be worth their weight in gold:

You'll be able to find the best restaurants, shops and services and using our new Geo-Mapping function, you'll even be able to print off directions to find them. You'll tap into a list of recommended vendors so you don't have to go through the trial and error process. As changes happen, we will update you on Immigration, Legal, Health changes and more. We'll have a full overview on the Health Care industry so you can have all the information before you choose.

Local organizations will be highlighted so you can decide which ones you may want to join. We will dedicate a section to local charities as our way of giving back. We'll outline what each does and what volunteer assistance they may need so you can best match your skills to their needs. Social Networking is also something we are working on so you can match yourself to others who have similar interests. For instance if you want a bridge partner or someone to hike with.

The 'Ask Focus' website will continue to grow as we add more and more content to further enhance your new life on the lakeside. When you are looking for any information about your life in Lake Chapala, instead of going to 'Google', you'll be able to go to ASK FOCUS and just 'Focus It' to retrieve your answers.

We'll invite Alumni to share your stories with us. If you drive to Mexico with pets you can identify the route you took and the hotels you found that would (or would not) take pets. By inviting Alumni to participate, we'll be able to cover a lot more and add additional value for all to benefit from and enjoy.

In addition, you will continue to have access to our Focus Team of Relocation Specialists. Your Focus program continues long after the Educational Tour. Just as a sample: We'll answer your questions on car insurance, driving routes, toll roads, travel insurance, papers necessary to cross the border. Focus Relocation Specialists are here to assist you every step of the way. And all this is included in the price of the program.

ASK FOCUS will give you answers to:

•  How to get a Mexican Driver's License 
•  What to do when your vehicle registration expires 
•  How to sign up for IMSS (National Health Care) 
• How to apply for the Seniors Benefit Card for Jalisco and the national card for the rest of Mexico
  • List of discounts, including hospitals, lab tests, restaurants, museums, ETN bus travel, property taxes and much more
  • Note: Many people have lived here for years and are not even aware this benefit to seniors exists
    
•  Recommended services, like maids, gardeners, dog sitters, painters, decorators, doctors, dentists, restaurants, etc. 
•  Holidays and Fiestas 
•  What are the labor laws? 
•  What benefits are your maid and gardener entitled to, for instance:
  •  Christmas bonuses 
  •  Holiday pay 
  •  Severance package 
  •  Do you need to enroll them in IMSS Health and Pension? 
•  Who can drive your vehicle and who can't? 
• How to change your foreign plates to Mexican plates (and are you allowed?)

...and so very much more.

Through the Focus Alumni Support program, you'll have access to our Relocation Specialists and Focus support team to help you make the transition seamless and then to assist you in your ongoing day-to-day living.
