| A Different approach to arthritis and other joint problems |
Arthritic pain is one of the major complaints of people over the age of 60 and for many it seems to be almost normal and natural to have some sort of pain and stiffness. I dare to say that arthritis, like many other illnesses, has its cause in our modern sedentary life style and unhealthy eating habits.

| Back Pain Tension Myositis Syndrome |
Pain, and primarily back pain, is the leading cause of
visiting a doctor. Chronic pain can make people’s lives miserable. Pain
medications do not address the cause, and, unfortunately, surgeries are not
always helpful either. People may become
hopeless and depressed. Therefore, looking at alternatives in cases of chronic
pain is very important. |
| Curanderos and Curanderas Healers of Mexico |
Curenderos are very religious and very spiritual and believe you have to have God in your heart to be a true healer. I was very moved by the conversations in these stories…I felt it was an eye-opening experience. In fact, I have to say the whole experience of being with someone who feels the power of God in their hands was another life-altering moment in Mexico. I hope you enjoy reading about this as much as I enjoyed writing and experiencing it! |
| Dental Vacation in Lake Chapala Mexico |
Though the main purpose of my first visit to Chapala was to investigate
future living potential. I know about the polarity of “medical
vacations,” particularly around the Guadalajara area due to the high
number of U.S. trained and certified medical specialists and the high
standards to which they adhere. |
| Fearless Aging at Lake Chapala |
“To age well and without fear happens as we learn how to be more authentically ourselves.” Recently, I attended a seminar on Aging at Abbeyfield in Ajijic, a new assisted living home in the area that is affiliated with the Abbeyfield homes in the U.K. and around the world. At 38 years old I probably seemed like a pretty unlikely candidate to be attending a workshop on aging, but I am fond of saying I’m an eccentric old lady in training, and I wanted to find out why the elderly seem so different here at Lake Chapala than most of the elderly people I know from the U.S. My thoughts that the retirees here are different isn’t mine alone. Most everyone I know agrees. |
| Healthcare in Mexico A Booming Business |
As we all know, there is perhaps no greater concern for the retiring population in America—living on limited life savings and the fixed income of social security—than being able to afford medical care. And, unfortunately, not just for retirees…healthcare has become a luxury many cannot afford. |
| Medical care in Mexico A bright but nuanced picture |
“Nine out of ten foreign people will tell you unequivocally they like doctors here in Mexico better,” says Brian W. Jones, a Canadian family practice and emergency doctor who has practiced in the United States, Canada and for ten years in Mexico.

| No Magic Pill |
A ll viruses must be processed by your immune system. There is no magic pill for it. The stronger one’s immune system, the fewer symptoms one has if they catch it at all. Antibiotics do not work on viruses. Building one’s immune system is the best way of not getting the flu or any communicable disease. |
| Ozone and Chelation Therapies |
Ozone therapy represents a genuine alternative to orthodox medicine, particular in medical conditions where orthodox medicine does not offer an effective treatment, for example when the microflora is resistant to available antibiotics. |
| Personal thoughts on a health question |
I would like to get your personal thoughts on a health question. My wife has dementia and is only 58 years old, I just turned 60. Is there care available for a person with dementia? At this time she does not need full time care and I am still working but the time is approaching when I will have to choose between my job and providing care for her. From what I have read we may be able to survive on her pension and social security disability there if I have to leave my job. Here it would be difficult without my income and insurance coverage. But full time care costs more then I make so at some point it will not make sense to continue working. Since either here or in Mexico I will need assistance caring for her eventually I just wanted to be sure that I could get qualified help there at a more reasonable price then here. Complicated I know. |
| Quality Affordable Health Care in Mexico |
U.S. citizens living in Mexico are covered by Medicare only if they travel back to the U.S. However, IMSS is open to expatriates living in Mexico. The best part is the plan only costs between $100 - $300 per person per year.
Though not stringent, there are a few restrictions. |

| Will Medicare benefits be coming to Mexico |
According to Paul Crist (AMMAC), a guest speaker at a recent AMAR conference in Mexico City:
“We are actively lobbying the U.S. Government to do a pilot project in
Mexico where American citizens living in Mexico will be able to avail
themselves of the benefits of Medicare for Medical Services
administered in Mexico”. |
