Ixtlahuacan
de los Membrillos is situated at the base of Sierra de Travesano Mountain, and is
the gateway up over the mountain to Lake
Chapala and the towns of Chapala, Ajijic and others.
The
town is famous for its membrillos—the fruit quince, and all the wonderful ways
it is enjoyed—as a paste, fruit gels, and preservatives.
