Question:
I am a little confused about the mail.
Do you receive mail to your Mexican Post Office Box from family and friends and
business from the U.S.
and/or Canada?
What about Social Security, Medicare, 1099’s etc that cannot be sent
electronically. Also, the possibility that the bank might be sending a debit or
credit card expectantly.
Answer:
We seldom get real mail from family and friends, although we did
for years from our Accountant in Canada regarding our business
there, before we wound it down. The mail used to be tremendously slow so in
past days we would use courier (expensive). Now it if it urgent we either use a
courier (or someone we know going back to the U.S.
or Canada
to take and mail for us), or if not urgent, we use the post office box
here.
You might want the Social Security and Medicare info and such
like to go to a Mail Boxes Etc account. You can always set one up and use it
for a while till they figure out the best ways and then cancel in a year or so.
You could test having things sent to your Mexico PO Box at some point and then
just switch if that works for you. Usually the banks will courier Bank cards.
In fact, they told us one time that they would not mail but only courier. That
was the time they made a mistake and actually mailed it and we never did
receive. Then they couriered the replacement.
