Foreigners who are 60 or older and have a residence visa for Mexico (FM2 or FM3) can take part in Mexico's Personas Adultas Mayores benefits program. This program offers discounts on many products and services, such as hospitals, other medical services, cultural activities; transportation and many stores. The discounts range from 5% to 50% off the price of goods or services.
Focus is in the process of documenting this process and when completed, will make it available to our program alumni. Basically to enroll in the program you must go to an office of the Instituto Nacional de las Personas Adultas Mayores (National Institute for Senior Citizens) and request a membership card. At that time you will have to provide the following:
- Your passport (plus a photocopy) showing that you're at least 60 years old
- ID with Picture (plus a photocopy)
- Contact information of someone in case of an accident or emergency
- Passport-size photo
- A valid FM-2 or FM-3 visa
- Proof of address in Mexico
Once you have your membership card, show it at participating locations to get your discount and the card is valid throughout Mexico as well as for some services in foreign countries. unfortunely at present most list of participating companies and the discounts they offer are only in Spanish. Once Focus On Mexico has completely documented the process, we will be providing the list of participating companies in Guadalajara and the Lakeside area in english for our program participants. The following are only a few of the benifits:
- 50% discount on public buses
- Up to 30% discount at restaurants
- Up to 30% off the cost of automobile service work and 30% off the cost of new tires
- Up to 50% off veterinarian and pet grooming services
- Up to 50% on hotel costs
- Discounts on everything from food to clothes, shoes to appliances and even cars
- 5% discount on purchases at Gigante stores nationwide
- free admittance to almost all museums and archeological sites
- 10% to 50% discounts from participating attorneys and accountants
- 25% off hardware, 20% off construction materials, and 20% off the cost of construction work
According to Instituto Nacional de las Personas Adultas Mayores officials, they are adding more participating companies all the time. Once you have a membership card, it is worth asking for the discount before you pay the full price.
