| Day Tripping Around Lake Chapala Mexico |
Once you are in Ajijic, either as a temporary resident, living here
permanently, or just visiting, you begin to wonder what the area has to
offer. Day trips are available from tour companies which will take you
to various locations such as Tlaquepaque, Tonala and Guadalajara. You
can do these trips on your own, but perhaps a day trip with a guide
might be the answer for getting oriented. In the past I have written on
day trips that were taken to Téuchitlan to see the round pyramids and
to Tequila to see how the famous libation of the same name is produced. |
| Discovering yourself in Lake Chapala Mexico |
Well, we have discovered time and again that when people move to Lake
Chapala and finally get settled in, they start to discover the person
inside them that they finally listen to and really hear in the
tranquility of this magical place. You remember…that person who always
wanted to sit calmly, with no rushing; that person who wanted to sip a
cup of good coffee while enjoying a beautiful sunrise with the music of
the birds chirping in the background. The person who never had the
chance to do this because of the rush to go to school while still
young, or going to work later on in their lives. |
| Golfing in the Lake Chapala Area |
For genuine golf junkies, there's nothing like retirement. With your schedule cleared of the 9-to-5 grind, you're finally free to pass the days as you always wished: taking extra swings at the driving range, lining up that perfect putt on the 18th hole, and enjoying the fresh-cut grass and sunshine. |
| Lake Chapala Activities, Entertainment & Events |
If you are wondering what people living in lakeside spend their time doing, and if you are wondering if you will get bored or have nothing to do all day, that's something you shouldn’t worry about that at all! Time and time again, our Focus alumni come here and vanish! We never see them because they settle down, make friends, volunteer... and just generally get on with living at Lake Chapala. A typical answer they will give is, “I don’t know what I do all day, but it takes me all day to do it!" There certainly is no shortage of things to do. In fact, within a very short time, you will need to keep a calendar of events to avoid double booking. |
| Los Cantantes del Lago 2009 Summer Tour |
Los Cantantes del Lago is the choral group from the Lake Chapala area
that has become very well known for the two concerts it gives, at
Christmas and again at the end of March each year. The choir is made up
of some seventy members, male and female, Canadians, Americans, and
Mexicans ranging in age from 17 to 80-something. Since my wife is a
member of Los Cantantes, I had the privilege of being allowed to join
their 2009 Summer Tour. The tour took place from Monday, July 6 to
Friday, July 17, and visited various areas in central Mexico. |
| Mexican Rebozos Wonders in Weaving |
November 13-15th 2009 lakeside welcomed two Mexican textile experts,
renowned anthropologist Marta Turok and cultural tour director
Stephanie Schneider of Tia Stephanie Tours. These two women assisted Marianne Carlson to organize a Feria Within a Feria, a
special event which brought rebozo artists from different regions of
Mexico to lakeside where they demonstrated their craft and sold their wares. |
| Morelia and the Monarchs |
Now that the festive season is over and the family has all returned to their homes in various parts of the world, we started to think of what we would like to do. We looked at several tours and decided to visit Morelia and the Monarchs so a tour was booked and away we went.

| The Tequila Express |
This is a little primer on the drink Tequila as well as our tour to Tequila-ville on the train. I guarantee if you read this article and then go on the Tequila Express, I think you’re going to enjoy it a whole lot more! There are also some great pictures below to illustrate what I’m talking about in the article.
I’ve broken this up into a few different sections, just in case your interest lies more in the tours and less into the whys and the wherefores. Let me hear from you if you liked this article. Bill and I totally enjoyed doing the research required! |
| We are at Lake Chapala so now what |
So we are finally living at Lake Chapala. Now what do we do? We are used to living in a mid-sized western Canadian city where there is always something happening – a concert to attend, theatre productions, baseball, football, hockey, socializing with friends. But there is no hockey here, American and Canadian football doesn’t happen here other than on satellite TV, baseball – well I haven’t heard of any here, or seen any sign of it, again other than on TV. But then, I was not a big sports fan north of the border either so I am not missing it here. If you are a soccer fan, there is soccer here. Bear in mind, Mexico is more culturally related to Spain than to Canada or the U.S. |
| What do you do at Lakeside |
We get asked that question a lot, and the Guadalajara Reporter just gave us a good answer for you. In their two-part series, here's all the things you can be involved in (or not, as you wish!) when you move here. Even if you don't give them your valuable time, you can support most of these groups by attending the wonderful functions they have during the year.
