Carnival is celebrated in almost all Catholic countries as the final festivity before the commencement of Lent. At Lakeside we are in full Carnaval season with a series of events including the Sayaca parade in Ajijic on February 25 beginning at 10:30, starting from behind the church. The Sayacos are a pre-hispanic tradition native to Ajijic and there are several versions of the legend about their origins that have been passed down orally from one generation to another. What’s on the South Side of Lake Chapala?
Mexico is full of treasures and lakeside is all around Lake Chapala, which the indigenous used to call the sea of Chapala due to its size. I've been curious about the 'other' side of the lake ever since arriving in Ajijic almost two years ago. A … [Read more...]

Pink Pangea, a women's travel site, gives an excellent synopsis of what culture shock … [Read more...]

Assisted living is a fairly new concept in Mexico, because most Mexicans still consider it a duty and an honor to care for their elderly family members. Recent statistics point out that in the state of Jalisco there are only ~1,700 elderly Mexicans in assisted living out of an elderly Jalisco population of ~758,000. However, there are currently 11 assisted living centers and nursing homes Lakeside geared … [Read more...]
